Make a few things with your hands

two hands to make things

49 of 60

Create something you can touch. Learn how it feels to make something with your own two hands.

So much of what we do each day is by swipe, or tap. This is not making something with your hands.

Experience the failure and success of making things when the stakes are low - this is practice for higher stakes things you will do later.

Working with your hands will get you out of your head and into your senses.

There is great pleasure in feeling things, shaping them. Here are a few things you can try:
1) make coffee by hand: choose and then grind the beans, play with the brew time in an AeroPress
2) squeeze your own orange juice
3) use a shave brush to soap your beard
4) make pasta (not very hard to do)
5) bake bread (harder, but not too hard)

It doesn’t matter what you make, you decide: it just matters that you feel and shape some of the world directly with your hands.
